Derek's Itinerary for a 5 day trip through Asturias and Galicia: For a group of 4-6 students or young adults, adventurous types with an interest in culture and physical activity(i.e. hiking)... First day:
Arrive at Aeropeurto Asturias at 9 a.m.
Take bus into Oviedo, arrive approxiametly 10 a.m.
Breakfast at local cafe.
11 a.m. Begin day hike uphill to the Sagrado Corazon of Jesus(enormous monument on the top of a hill.
Stop along the way to visit the monuments of San Miguel de Lillo(a church built in 843) and Santa Maria de Naranco(similar church)
1 p.m. Reach the top of the hill, have picnic lunch under the statue of Jesus and enjoy the view of the Picos de Europa all around.
2 p.m. begin hike back down
4 p.m. check into hotel (Nap Hotel, 40 euro/night), time to unpack and undwind after the hike.
7 p.m. meet in hotel lobby and head out for a night of traditional asturian flavor(visit the numerous sidrerias and a personal favorite bar, Cajanegra) Second day:
8 a.m. meet in the lobby and catch a bus to Gijon, a town on the north coast of Spain,
9 a.m. arrive at the coast, get breakfast and spend the day lounging on the sand.
4 p.m. catch the bus back to Oviedo
5 p.m. arrive at the cathedral for a guided tour.
7 p.m. free time to explore the night life in Oviedo Third day:
8 a.m. meet in the lobby and catch a bus to Santiago de Compestela
10 a.m. guided tour of the famous Cathedral
12 p.m. traditional Galician lunch featuring seafood caught fresh
2 p.m. free time for shopping in the Abastos Market
4 p.m. coffee in Parque de Santo Domingo de Bonaval
6 p.m. dinner for buen xantar in local resteraunt. Fourth day:
10 a.m. begin the day roaming around the different squares surrounding the cathedral
12 p.m. tour the old town, The Rúa Nova, Rúa do Franco and Rúa do Vilar
2 p.m. seafood lunch, for the adventurous, try the pulpo.
3-6 p.m. free time to roam the old city and do some souvenir shopping.
7 p.m. meet at and tour the gothic cathedral of St. Domingo containing the Panteón de los Gallegos Ilustres
9 p.m. free time to explore the nightlife of Galicia. Fifth day:
8 a.m. meet in the hotel lobby
9 a.m. traditional Galician breakfast before departing
12 p.m. flight out of Vigo airport.
